Singapore (30/04/2013) – Lawrence Chong, CEO at Consulus, who has served two terms as the President of Design Business Chamber Singapore (DBCS) has finally handed over the presidency to Tai Lee Siang, Group MD at Ong & Ong. The Design Business Chamber is Singapore’s premiere multi-disciplinary design business chamber since 1985 and a network partner of DesignS. The chamber has more than 120 corporate members with portfolios in disciplines such as architecture, branding, interior, furniture, graphic design and new media.

During Lawrence’s tenure as President of DBCS, he revived the Singapore Design Awards and led the organisation to co-host the World ICSID Congress that gathered more than 1,000 professional designers from across the world to meet in Singapore in 2009. He also led design business delegations to represent the industry at the World Expo in Shanghai and the Business of Design Week held in Shenzhen. He initiated a re-organisation of the association by making the constitution more robust, ensuring continuity of leadership and allowing other associations to join the Design Business Chamber, Singapore.

Chong who served as the 8th president joins a select group of esteemed design leaders who have held the position at the design chamber. Some past presidents include:

  • Mr. Nigel Smith, CEO at DIA Group
  • Mr. Allein Moore, Editor at AdAsia
  • Mr. Peer Sathikh, Assistant Professor at Nanyang Technological University

Chong was honored to have had the opportunity to serve the industry. “These past four years of change and energy would not have been possible without the support and unity of all members. We must do our utmost to support the new president as we strive to make Singapore, Asia’s home for creativity,” Chong said.
