Indonesia’s upstream struggle set to last – Consulus comments on NewsBase

According to NewsBase, Indonesian President Joko Widodo has been fighting an uphill battle to streamline the country’s energy industries since entering office in October 2014.

In comments to NewsBase, Lawrence Chong, CEO and co-founder of Consulus, said that Widodo-led reforms to raise interest in upstream investment are essential if he is to succeed in transforming the economy.

“The president is also aware that red tape is one reason why economic development in Indonesia has not reached its potential,” Chong said. “If the government does this well it will have its intended impact of making a difference. The question is how well will this policy be executed.”
