DUBAI, 12 September 2024 — Consulus, in partnership with Circular Cities Network (CCN), has officially unveiled Circular Cities Mark (CCM), which is based on the principles of CircularCORE.

CircularCORE is a specialized method that integrates PlaceCORE, ImpactCORE, AgriCORE, and Future Resilience by Design (FRBD) with circular systems practices to address critical issues of climate change, rampant urbanism, loss of habitats, and limits of resources.

This was announced through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) formalized at the Circular Cities Summit 2.0 on 11-12 September in Dubai. This new venture marks a significant step forward in advancing sustainable and circular urban development.

The MOU outlines a strategic partnership between CCN and Consulus to focus on developing and implementing initiatives and award schemes that enhance resource efficiency, reduce waste, and support the transition towards circular urban environments.

“Partnering with CCN aligns perfectly with our mission to drive transformative change in urban environments. Together, we can accelerate the transition to circular cities and set new benchmarks for sustainability,” said Ar. Chee Yung Kuan, Global Head of CircularCORE.

“Circular Cities Mark is Consulus’ first of many strategic insights, and efforts, as CCN’s Global Systems Thinking Partner , to expound on and activate the practice of Circular Systems for the good of our urban environment and denizens within; and to drive highly efficient, low-waste, community, and ecologically friendly solutions for future economic resilience in cities.”

The Circular Cities Network (CCN) was established in 2023 by eight founding organizations representing the Urban Built Environment Solutions Ecosystem to foster collaborations aimed at creating sustainable urban environments and advancing a global circular economy. During the Shape The World Summit 2024, CCN announced that Consulus will serve as its Global Systems Thinking Partner for five years.

CircularCORE outlines four key dimensions that define Circular Cities:

1. Policy: Establish a circular systems industry through governmental and regulatory frameworks.
2. Ecosystem: Build an ecosystem that promotes education, research, and the application of circular practices.
3. Economic Drivers: Create incentives that make circular practices and businesses economically viable and attractive.
4. Implementation: Provide diverse and successful case studies to demonstrate the effectiveness of circular systems in action.

Together, the leadership team behind CCN and CircularCORE will guide cities and enablers tailored to each city’s unique strengths, influence, and distinctiveness.

“We are thrilled to partner with Consulus to advance our shared vision of sustainable urban development. This MOU represents a commitment to collaborative innovation and action, and we look forward to working together to create impactful solutions for the cities of tomorrow,” said Dr. Ali Al Jassim, President of Circular Cities Network.
